Project Description
Only a puddle remains along a dried up portion of the Awash as pastoralists herds their camel back to their villages just outside Logyia in the Afar region of Ethiopia. A massive concrete wall, behind, holds back water that’s being channeling from the main Awash River over to the Tendaho Sugar Factory Project in Dubti where 60,000 hectors of sugarcane are gown, the largest agriculture and industrial project in this part of Afar. The diversion of this water has been a major problem for Afar pastoralists who use to rely on the Awash river for their cattle’s drinking water.
